How did you find the inspiration to start your page and take the leap as a content creator?

I found inspiration to become a content creator from hearing women who look like me not appreciate their beautiful curly/coily hair. I wanted to show women of color healthy hair techniques and tips as well as to embrace their natural beauty.

What is your overall inspiration for your posts and Instagram feed?

As a content creator, I also have a background in photography playing around with different aesthetics, filters, and presets. I think my inspiration comes from seeing what works for how I want people to feel when they come to my page. I like my feed to be cohesive and I smile in a lot of my pictures because I want to be inviting and I’m transparent in my captions to be relatable to my audience.

Why do you think using the voices of influencers and influencer marketing is especially important in the times of the #blacklivesmatter movement?

I believe using the voices of influencers, especially black influencers, is important because of representation. #Blacklivesmatter is a movement that should raise awareness to brands to be more inclusive but it should also go further than just being a trend but create more opportunities for people who look like me from now on.

What changes do you want to be seen this year in the industry to become more inclusive?

I would like for content creators of all colors, shapes, and sizes to be given the opportunity to work with and represent brands that don’t normally work with people who look like them, while also compensating them for the amount of work put into it.

Who is your biggest inspiration in the industry and why?

My biggest inspiration is Rihanna. She created her makeup, skincare, and lingerie brands while not worrying about how saturated the market is. She created something and continues to use women of color of different shapes and sizes to represent her brand. She continues to create opportunities for women like me and that inspires me to create space as well.

What do you wish people knew about influencers?

I want people to know that we don’t always feel pretty or always have our lives together. But we choose to create content because we can be creative and it serves a purpose to help someone at the same time. I would also like people to know that a lot of work goes into creating content because it not only represents a brand but as an influencer it's your work and what you will be remembered by.

Where do you see yourself, as well as the industry, within the next few years?

I see myself working with major brands, creating opportunities for women of color, inspiring curly/coily haired women on a larger scale to love themselves. And if they see someone like them embracing that then maybe it will encourage them as well.

What is the best piece of advice you have for black creators who want to build their own social media brand and get started in the industry?

My advice to other black creators would be to just go for it. Just because you don’t see a lot of people who are in the industry like yourself on a larger scale does not mean the market doesn’t need you. Just because the industry is saturated doesn’t mean they don’t need to see your face or hear your story. There is room for you.
