So, here’s the tea on Gen Z -- they’re between the ages of 10 and 23, they grew up as digital natives (and will absolutely school you on all things social media), and they have officially outnumbered millennials, taking the lead as the largest demographic. With a purchasing power of $44 billion a year, brands will want to make sure they understand this demographic and connect with them in the right ways and tap into their growing influence. No cap, these kids have major clout (am I aging myself yet?), and you don’t want to miss out on catching their attention.

The easiest way to get their attention (which spans about 8 seconds) is social media. Gen Z logs on to social media for two hours and 55 minutes each day, almost an hour longer than the average millennial, and, good news for you, they are also 59% more likely than older generations to connect with brands on social media. You’ll want to dial back your Facebook, though, and use these key platforms keep your company looking cool:

Gen Z defines themselves as creative, diverse, and authentic, and they look for brands that speak to all of these attributes. How exactly can you make your advertising strategy look authentic to Gen Z, though? Go straight to the source and use these young, creative minds for content creation.

Boiling it all down: Eighty-three percent of Gen Z trust recommendations from friends more than any other advertising. Eighty-four percent trust a company more if they use actual customers in their ads, and 66% said they would be willing to promote a product on one of their personal social networks if they liked it. We might be a little biased, but we believe micro-influencers are the optimum way to connect with Gen Z. There’s a reason the influencer industry is projected to be a 15 billion industry by 2022.
